A delegation of lawmakers from the Rivers State House of Assembly, aligned with the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has commenced a five-day legislative training program in the United Kingdom

The training, which began on Friday in Central London, is focused on deepening their understanding of governance and legislative processes, particularly within “Legislative Dynamics in Presidential and Parliamentary Systems.” The lawmakers are engaging in a series of workshops and discussions aimed at sharpening their legislative competencies.

According to reports, the objective of the program is to equip the legislators with in-depth knowledge of the complexities of lawmaking, empowering them to better serve the people of Rivers State upon their return.

On Saturday, as part of the training activities, the delegation—led by Speaker Rt. Hon. Martin Chike Amaewhule—visited agricultural facilities in England. The aim of this excursion was to explore innovative farming practices that could be adapted to boost agricultural productivity in Rivers State.

Hon. Nkemjika Ezekwe, who represents the Onelga Constituency II, shared insights about the visit, emphasizing the exposure to advanced agricultural methods and technologies. She noted that such firsthand experiences would greatly inform their approach to agricultural policymaking back home.

“In our Day 2 training, we gained valuable insights into modern farming practices. Learning from advanced agricultural regions helps bridge the gap between traditional and modern techniques. This will enable us to craft better-informed policies on food security, rural development, and environmental sustainability,” Ezekwe said.

She added that witnessing technologies such as precision farming, efficient livestock management, and agro-processing in action could inspire policies that support innovation and sustainability in Rivers State’s agricultural sector.

Speaker Amaewhule also highlighted the importance of knowledge exchange during the visit, stressing that exposure to global best practices can enhance both the effectiveness of local farmers and the legislative framework needed to support them.

Notably, this training trip comes in the wake of President Bola Tinubu’s recent declaration of a state of emergency in Rivers State and the suspension of the same lawmakers—moves said to be aimed at restoring peace and governance in the troubled state.
