A 17-year-old, Philip Emmanuel, has confessed to collaborating with his accomplice, Precious, to murder their employer, Mrs. Adene Iyabode Deborah. The victim, a caterer, was found dead in her apartment after being missing for several days. She had been brutally attacked, with multiple stab wounds and her head severed.
At a press conference held at the Ondo Police headquarters, Philip revealed that he had worked for Mrs. Deborah for five months before the crime occurred. He explained that Precious, who had been employed as a driver for only two months, persuaded him to commit the murder.
Philip recounted that Precious overheard that N150,000 had been deposited into their boss’s account and suggested they kill her to steal the money. Despite initial reluctance, Philip agreed to the plan.
The teenager described the events leading up to the murder: “Last month, I had been working as her cook. Precious, who had just been hired as a driver, told me about the money in my madam’s account and proposed we kill her. I had never killed anyone before. On Saturday, my madam asked me to help with her laundry because she was tired. Precious also came, claiming he wanted to assist her. He brought a drink, which I consumed. Then he threatened me with a cutlass and pushed me into the house. I was forced to use the cutlass on her and began crying.”
After the murder, Precious checked the account but found only N60,000. He gave Philip N30,000, and Philip fled to Idanre.
Ondo State Police Commissioner, Oladipo Abayomi, described Philip as a trusted employee of the deceased and urged the public to be cautious about discussing sensitive financial information around individuals who might exploit such knowledge.
