Tension in APC! Shettima Rebukes Ganduje’s 2027 Presidency Comments

The National President of the Arewa Youths Consultative Forum (AYCF), Yerima Shettima, has responded to the statement made by the National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, urging northern politicians to abandon any plans of contesting the presidency in 2027.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Ganduje had previously stated that northern politicians should forgo their presidential ambitions, asserting that President Bola Tinubu would complete two terms in office.
In an interview with Vanguard, Shettima criticized Ganduje’s stance, arguing that it was an attempt to suppress political competition and silence opposition voices.
He questioned the implications of Ganduje’s remarks on Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that every citizen has the constitutional right to run for political office.
Shettima stressed that discouraging northern candidates from contesting in 2027 undermines democratic principles, limits voter choices, and could be seen as an effort to consolidate power within a particular political faction.
He further noted that Nigeria’s diverse and multi-ethnic structure necessitates equal political opportunities for all regions, adding that it is premature to dictate the 2027 presidential race years in advance.
According to Shettima, democracy thrives on competition, and Nigerians deserve the freedom to choose from a variety of candidates with different perspectives and backgrounds.
