Speaking on Saturday in Abuja after the inaugural meeting of the publicity and communications sub-committee for the party’s forthcoming national convention, the governor reaffirmed his commitment to the PDP, describing it as his “political home.”
Mohammed expressed concern over the recent wave of defections by some PDP governors and prominent members to the All Progressives Congress (APC) but clarified that he lacked the authority to stop them.
According to him, the party has been holding internal discussions to manage the situation, stressing that the defection rate could have been worse without ongoing reconciliation efforts.
“I assure you, I am not going anywhere. I remain firmly in the PDP, and there is no division in my state,” he said. “As a leader among equals, I cannot dictate my colleagues’ choices, but many discussions are happening behind the scenes. The situation is under control.”
The governor also confirmed that the PDP national convention will hold on November 15 and 16, as planned, despite external pressures.
He maintained that the PDP remains united, resilient, and ready to reposition itself ahead of the 2027 general elections, urging party leaders to stay focused and work to alleviate the hardships Nigerians are facing.
