Kwankwaso Urges U.S. to Support Nigeria with Technology, Not Threats, After Trump’s Remarks

Former presidential candidate and leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, Senator Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso, has voiced concern over recent statements by U.S. President Donald Trump, who designated Nigeria as a “country of particular concern.”

In a statement posted on his Facebook page on Sunday, November 2, Kwankwaso said he was “deeply worried” by the tone of Trump’s comments, urging Washington to offer constructive assistance instead of issuing threats that could worsen tensions.

“I have noted with increasing concern the heightened pronouncements on Nigeria by President Donald Trump following his designation of Nigeria as a ‘country of particular concern,’” he wrote.

The former Kano State governor maintained that Nigeria’s security crisis is driven by criminality and lawlessness — not religious or ethnic conflicts.

“Nigeria remains a sovereign nation facing security challenges caused by outlaws, not by religion or ethnicity.
The insecurity we face does not discriminate based on faith, tribe, or political affiliation,” he stated.

Kwankwaso warned that inflammatory foreign rhetoric could further divide an already fragile society and called for greater international understanding of Nigeria’s complex security situation.

“Assist Us with Technology, Not Threats” – Kwankwaso Tells U.S. Government

Kwankwaso appealed to the United States to support Nigeria with modern technology and intelligence resources in its fight against terrorism, banditry, and insecurity, rather than issuing military threats or diplomatic ultimatums.

“The United States should assist the Nigerian authorities with advanced technology and intelligence tools to tackle insecurity, rather than posing threats that could deepen divisions within our country,” he said.

He emphasized that a partnership based on intelligence sharing, counterterrorism cooperation, and security technology transfer would serve both nations better than confrontation.

The NNPP chieftain also urged the Nigerian government to respond to the situation through strategic diplomatic engagement, not public confrontation.

“The Nigerian government should consider appointing special envoys from its pool of seasoned diplomats to engage the American government,” he advised.
“It is also necessary to appoint permanent ambassadors to represent Nigeria’s interests on the international stage.”

Kwankwaso underscored that mutual respect and sustained dialogue are crucial for maintaining healthy relations between Nigeria, the United States, and other global partners.

Calling for unity at home, he urged Nigerians to stay resilient in the face of both external criticism and internal challenges.

“To my fellow countrymen, this is a time to promote unity and national belonging over division. God bless Nigeria,” he concluded.
