Tension Rises As Okonkwo Reveals Alleged Masterminds Of Obi Assassination Attempt

Veteran Nollywood actor and chieftain of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kenneth Okonkwo, has alleged that the recent attack on former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in Edo State was sponsored by the state government or individuals linked to it.
Gunmen had reportedly attacked Obi and other ADC leaders during an event in Edo State on Tuesday.
Speaking during an appearance on Prime Time on Arise Television, Okonkwo referenced an earlier warning allegedly issued by the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, cautioning Obi against entering the state without prior clearance and suggesting his security could not be assured.
Okonkwo claimed he had communicated with former Edo State Governor, John Odigie-Oyegun, who reportedly provided details about the incident.
According to him, the attack appeared to be either government-backed or carried out by its agents. He argued that the previous public warning to Obi had already raised concerns about the safety of opposition figures.
He explained that the incident occurred as supporters gathered to receive Olumide Akpata, former President of the Nigerian Bar Association, into the ADC. Okonkwo added that the group encountered a convoy of about ten vehicles, led by a pilot car, before the situation escalated.
