Speaking during an interview on Trust TV, Okoye weighed in on the ongoing national debate surrounding amendments to the Electoral Act recently signed into law by President Bola Tinubu.

Addressing the functionality of INEC’s election devices, Okoye explained that the machines are equipped with power banks and other necessary accessories to ensure smooth operation. He maintained that all polling units in Nigeria have network access and described the Senate’s argument about connectivity challenges as weak.

According to him, once voting concludes and the Presiding Officer captures the EC8A result form, the device stores the data if there is temporarily no network at that location. He noted that the moment the device reconnects to a network, it automatically transmits the stored results.

He stressed that once results are entered into the system, they cannot be altered by the Presiding Officer while awaiting connectivity. Okoye described the debate over network issues as unnecessary, insisting that there is no polling unit in Nigeria completely without network coverage.

He further pointed out that even before the introduction of the iReV portal, INEC had successfully uploaded polling unit-level results through its result viewing platform during previous elections.
