Tension Rises! Lagos Speaker Meranda Accuses Obasa Of Violent Office Takeover

Addressing journalists on Friday at the Lagos State High Court, where Obasa had filed a legal challenge against his removal, Meranda refrained from commenting extensively on the case, stating, “Both parties have their legal representatives, and we should allow them to do their job.”

‘Obasa Illegally Broke Into My Office’

Meranda acknowledged Obasa’s right to access the Assembly as a sitting lawmaker but strongly criticized his unauthorized entry into her office.

“He remains a member of the House and has the right to be there, but breaking into my office is completely unacceptable,” she said.

Regarding the withdrawal of her security detail on Thursday, Meranda downplayed concerns over her personal safety, stating, “I have my people with me, and God is with me.”

However, she revealed that her security detail had been significantly reduced. “I used to have 12 policemen, four DSS operatives, and two anti-B personnel. As of this morning, I have only three or four policemen left.”

‘Obasa’s Plenary Was a Mockery’

Reacting to Obasa’s claim of holding a plenary session on Thursday, Meranda dismissed it as illegitimate and unserious.

“That was nothing but a show of shame. In our legislative process, we require a quorum. Sitting with only three or four members is mere theatrics,” she stated.
