Tensions Boil Over! Gunshots Rock Rivers PDP Secretariat Amid Wike-Fubara Face-Off

Tension gripped Port Harcourt on Friday as supporters of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, clashed with loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, at the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretariat along the Port Harcourt-Aba Expressway.

According to Vanguard, the chaos erupted when Fubara’s supporters attempted to reclaim the party’s office, which had been under the control of security operatives following a court ruling that nullified the Aaron Chukwuemeka-led PDP executive.

While some eyewitnesses claimed that security forces guarding the facility fired gunshots, others alleged the shots came from political thugs trying to seize control of the building.

The confrontation is the latest episode in the escalating political rift between Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, following the court’s dismissal of Chukwuemeka’s executive, which further fueled the leadership crisis within the Rivers PDP.

Fubara’s faction insists on taking over the party’s structure, while Wike’s loyalists are determined to maintain their grip on power. Security forces had been stationed at the secretariat to block Fubara’s camp from accessing the premises, but the latest attempt by his supporters to reclaim the office sparked Friday’s violent clash.
