Four Injured as Fubara, Wike Supporters Clash in Rivers State

A violent clash between supporters of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Wednesday left four individuals with bullet wounds.

The confrontation occurred around 7 a.m. at Elele Roundabout in Ikwerre Local Government Area.

Police Response and Arrests

Confirming the incident, Grace Iringe-Koko, spokesperson for the Rivers State Police Command, stated that security teams from the Elele Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were immediately deployed after receiving intelligence about an unlawful gathering of suspected hoodlums.

During an attempt to disperse the crowd, an unidentified gunman opened fire, injuring four people.

“The armed attackers fled, but one suspect was apprehended, and a single-barrel gun was recovered from him. The injured victims were quickly taken to hospitals in Elele for treatment. A manhunt is underway for the fleeing suspects, some of whom have been identified as members of the local vigilante group, OSPAC,” Iringe-Koko said.

Ongoing Investigation

The arrested suspect and the seized firearm have been handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further interrogation.

The Rivers State Commissioner of Police, Olugbenga Adepoju, has urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies, assuring the public that all perpetrators will be brought to justice.
