Reports indicated that the APC elders council condemned Goodluck Jonathan for suggesting that he would have relocated his mother to Abuja if the APC had won the recent election.

Jonathan, during the visit, expressed concerns about potential security issues in the state if Diri had not emerged victorious.

In a statement released on Monday, Mr. Ebiye Ogoli, the PDP State Publicity Secretary, accused the APC of distorting the former President’s comments.

The statement clarified that Jonathan’s remarks were not directed at the APC or its candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva.

The statement read, “For clarity, His Excellency Dr. Jonathan, while congratulating the governor during the visit, said: ‘I told myself that if Diri loses this election, I might consider moving my mother to Abuja.'”

The PDP emphasized that the APC had misappropriated Jonathan’s comment, and since its publication, the APC and affiliated groups had been displaying excessive and unwarranted reactions.

The PDP asserted that Jonathan’s statement referred to the peace, security, and stability witnessed under Governor Diri’s administration, acknowledged by the state’s residents.

The PDP criticized the Bayelsa APC leaders and groups, labeling them as lackeys of the party’s governorship candidate, and urged them to handle their defeat gracefully.

The statement advised the APC to refrain from directing their frustration towards an innocent statesman who spoke truthfully.

The PDP also highlighted the documented violent behavior of Bayelsa APC leaders and candidates during the last election, cautioning them to accept their defeat with decorum.
