The party, which had been on a break since December, was set to resume operations on Monday.
However, according to Daily Trust, the headquarters in Abuja witnessed a surge of demonstrators supporting embattled Secretary Senator Sam Anyanwu.
The protesters opposed the assumption of office by Sunday Ude-Okoye, recently declared National Secretary by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.
At the entrance of the PDP’s Wadata Plaza headquarters in Wuse Zone 5, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “No vacancy in the National Secretary’s office” and “Senator Sam Anyanwu remains the National Secretary.”
The protest led to an increased security presence, with additional police officers deployed to the area.
A police vehicle was stationed outside the main gate, and security personnel conducted thorough searches of staff and visitors before granting them entry.
Meanwhile, embattled Secretary Senator Samuel Anyanwu has resumed duties at the party’s secretariat.
Naija News understands Anyanwu arrived at the PDP secretariat in Abuja around 10:56 a.m. and proceeded directly to his office, where he was welcomed by his personal staff.
Anyanwu’s resumption follows a court declaration affirming Sunday Ude-Okoye as the legitimate National Secretary of the PDP.
Speaking to reporters at the PDP secretariat, Anyanwu dismissed an earlier statement by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, affirming Ude-Okoye as the party’s valid National Secretary based on a court pronouncement.
In response, Anyanwu stated that Ologunagba’s position is merely his personal opinion, adding that he has appealed the court judgment against him.
