The latest assault took place around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday in Layin Gara village, located in Funtua Local Government Area (LGA), where two people were killed and 16 others were kidnapped. A local resident, speaking anonymously, told Daily Trust that the attackers operated for hours without encountering any resistance.
Earlier, on Saturday, bandits targeted Maikuma village in Dandume LGA, where four people were killed and about 43 others were abducted. The assailants, heavily armed and traveling on motorcycles, attacked the village in large numbers.
A source revealed, “They went from house to house for hours before retreating into the forest with their captives.”
The Chairman of Dandume LGA, Basiru Musa, confirmed the attack, stating that over 100 bandits participated in the raid.
“Their objective was to kill and abduct as many people as possible. They killed four and kidnapped around 43, though some estimates suggest the number may be closer to 45 or even higher,” he said.
Musa further explained that upon learning of the impending attack, he reached out to the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) and the military unit in the area. Although they responded quickly, the security forces were unable to pursue the attackers beyond their designated limits and were forced to withdraw when the bandits fled into the forest.
The chairman expressed his frustration over the ongoing attacks and urged the government to take stronger measures to address the worsening security situation in the region.
