Texas Governor Abbott Drops Hammer: Sharia Law and ‘Sharia Cities’ Banned After Imam’s Viral Video
Texas Governor, Ted Abbott, has officially outlawed the practice of Sharia law and the establishment of Sharia-compliant cities or towns in the state.
Abbott made the announcement on X while reacting to a viral video of protesters holding placards in support of Sharia law.
“I signed laws that BAN Sharia Law and Sharia Compounds in Texas,” Abbott declared. “No business or individual should ever feel threatened by people like this.”
He further urged Texans to take action: “If this person, or ANYONE, attempts to enforce Sharia compliance, report it immediately to local law enforcement or the Texas Department of Public Safety.”
The viral video that triggered the reaction shows a Houston-area Islamic cleric urging shopkeepers to stop selling alcohol, pork, and lottery tickets in line with Sharia principles.
Speaking through a megaphone, the cleric said: “People should not violate the religion of Islam by selling products that go against our faith. We should love what Allah loves and hate what Allah hates. We will be visiting stores in neighborhoods where Islam is being ignored.”
