Addressing the issue of alleged genital disappearances and emphasizing a commitment to preventing vigilante justice, Garba cautioned against any form of extrajudicial actions.
In response to the tragic death of Olorunfemi, a victim of “one-chance robbers” who reportedly passed away after being denied medical treatment at Maitama General Hospital due to a lack of a police report, the CP asserted, “It is inappropriate for a medical doctor to refuse assistance to a distressed patient.”
The Police Commissioner noted that it has been widely recognized that even if an individual is a suspected “armed robber,” they should still be kept alive to defend themselves in a court of law.
He emphasized that medical personnel have been repeatedly instructed during press briefings to admit individuals with gunshot wounds, provide them with necessary medical care to save their lives, and promptly inform the police about the incident.
