‘The Gallon Is Bigger Than Her — Woman Raises Concern Over Young Girl’s Daily Ordeal

A Nigerian woman, Ugwuagbo Nkemdilim, has raised concerns over the treatment of a young girl she claims has been carrying heavy gallons of water up to the third floor of a residential building more than 15 times daily.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Nkemdilim said she had observed the routine since moving into the neighbourhood nearly two months ago, expressing concern about the physical burden placed on the child.

In a Facebook post shared on Friday, October 16, 2026, she said the size of the water container appeared particularly worrying, especially as several adults reportedly lived in the apartment where the girl stayed.

“I watched this girl carry these gallons of water more than 15 times to the third floor of that upstairs, and this is her daily routine since almost two months I am here. My main concern is that the gallon is way bigger than her, and the people she is staying with have older people in the house,” she wrote.

Nkemdilim used the incident to urge parents to consider their ability to provide adequate care and support before having children.

She also advised parents who allow their children to live with relatives, guardians or other individuals to remain vigilant and ensure the minors are treated properly rather than being subjected to excessive domestic responsibilities.

The woman expressed disappointment over what she perceived as the unfair treatment of some children placed in the care of other adults, stressing the importance of protecting their welfare and preventing possible exploitation.

Her post has drawn attention to concerns surrounding child welfare, parental responsibility and the treatment of children living outside their biological parents’ homes.
