Speaking on Sunday via YouTube, Farotimi credited his freedom to the support of fellow Nigerians who stood by him during his struggles. He referred to Nigeria as an “evil empire” and lamented the country’s unbearable economy.
“We have become victims in the nation we have built. I’ve explained why many of us are fleeing,” he said, wiping away tears with a handkerchief. “We’ve created an intolerable country, unfit for human life. I’ve called it an evil empire.”
He continued, “Because of what we have collectively allowed, we’ve lost our nation and have become slaves to it.”
Farotimi also highlighted the strength of unity in the face of adversity, stating, “You found your voices. I became you. In our unity, you could not be silenced.”
Farotimi was recently released from a prison in Ekiti State after his arrest on December 3, 2024, by officers from the Ekiti State Police Command on charges of defamation and cyberbullying. His arrest followed allegations from renowned legal figure, Aare Afe Babalola, who accused Farotimi of defaming him in his 116-page book titled “Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.”
