The Reason Why I Wanted Him Gone!– Wike Explodes Over Fubara’s Suspension Drama

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has thrown his weight behind President Bola Tinubu’s decision to declare a state of emergency in Rivers State, calling it a vital move to restore peace and stability.

Speaking during a media chat with selected journalists in Abuja on Friday, Wike, a former governor of Rivers State, emphasized that removing Governor Siminalayi Fubara was essential, given the deepening political crisis in the state.

Wike defended President Tinubu’s suspension of Governor Fubara, his deputy Ngozi Odu, and members of the state House of Assembly, stating that the intervention helped avert chaos in the oil-rich region.

He also lauded the appointment of a sole administrator to oversee the state’s affairs, describing it as a “timely and wise” decision to stabilize Rivers State after months of unrest under Fubara’s leadership.

“As a politician, I wasn’t pleased with the emergency rule; I actually wanted the governor removed completely. But in the interest of the state, the president acted rightly to prevent total breakdown,” Wike said.

He added, “Let’s be honest — the governor was finished. He was gone. Those blaming the president should be thanking him instead.”

“Every morning, Rivers people should be at the Villa saying, ‘Mr President, can we wash your feet for saving us?’ The president stepped in and saved Rivers from disaster and anarchy.”
