Controversial Islamic cleric, Ahmad Gumi, has reiterated that dialogue and negotiation with bandits and terrorist groups remain the most effective way to address Nigeria’s ongoing insecurity challenges.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

In a Facebook post on Thursday, Gumi said the country has, over the years, failed to adequately support disadvantaged groups, resulting in deep socio-economic inequalities that leave many young people vulnerable to manipulation by external forces seeking to destabilise the nation.

He argued that the widening gap between the rich and the poor has turned many youths into tools for sustaining cycles of violence, which in turn allow exploitation of the country’s resources.

Gumi also criticised the political class for what he described as a lack of responsiveness to the crisis, while noting that many members of the intellectual community are struggling to cope with economic pressures.

The cleric maintained that his earlier approach in 2021—focused on engaging and reintegrating violent actors into society—remains, in his view, the most practical solution to the insecurity problem.

He added that achieving lasting peace would require strong political will and a determined commitment from leadership to address the root causes of the crisis.
