ADC Turns Up Heat: Calls For Amupitan’s Immediate Resignation Over INEC Actions
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has called for the immediate resignation of the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, along with all National Commissioners.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
The party alleged that the current leadership of INEC has compromised its neutrality and is acting in favour of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The demand was made on Thursday by the ADC National Chairman, David Mark, during a world press conference held in Abuja.
The event was attended by several prominent political figures, including Atiku Abubakar, Rauf Aregbesola, Rabiu Kwankwaso, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi.
Other notable attendees included Liyel Imoke, Kashim Iman, John Odigie-Oyegun, and former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu, among others.
The ADC’s call follows INEC’s decision to remove the names of David Mark and Rauf Aregbesola from its official portal as National Chairman and National Secretary of the party.
Speaking at the press conference, Mark accused President Bola Tinubu of undermining democratic freedoms, including the rights of Nigerians to choose their leaders, participate in governance, and associate politically.
He further alleged that there were attempts to restrict political competition ahead of the 2027 general elections, suggesting that such actions could lead to a situation where voters have limited choices.
Mark also criticised the APC, accusing the ruling party of attempting to retain power at all costs, even if it leads to political instability.
He argued that INEC’s decision to derecognise him and Aregbesola was premature, claiming the electoral body should have awaited the outcome of the Court of Appeal before taking any action.
Despite the controversy, the ADC maintained that it will proceed with its planned party congresses, scheduled to begin on April 9, 2026, and conclude with its national convention on April 14, 2026.
