They Think The Presidency Will Write Results For Them’ — Kwankwaso Blasts APC Defectors

Kwankwaso made the claim during an interview on News Central TV’s 60 Minutes with Mr Kay, describing the situation as a worrying trend in Nigeria’s political landscape.

According to the former Kano State governor, many politicians are no longer focused on winning the confidence of voters, but instead believe that the security agencies and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will work in their favour.

He also suggested that desperation for political survival is driving many governors to align with the ruling party.

“It is not only the governor of Kano that is in the APC. Almost all the governors are of the opinion that they should join the ruling party because they believe that the presidency will write results for them.

“We are in a very unfortunate situation in the country where politicians are not too worried about the voters. They believe that the security and INEC are on their sides.

“Because of desperation, many governors can do anything now,” Kwankwaso said.

Speaks on security votes, anti-corruption

Kwankwaso also claimed that throughout his eight years as governor of Kano State, he never received or personally benefited from the state’s security vote.

Responding to a question on how an NDC-led administration would tackle corruption if elected, he said the fight against corruption must begin with leaders demonstrating integrity and accountability.

“We will start from home. As governor, my hands are clean. I never collected one naira from security votes for eight years as a governor,” he said.

He expressed confidence that Nigerians are eager for responsible leadership, adding that the NDC is working on building institutions capable of delivering effective governance.

“Nigerians are good people, and they are always expecting a good government. We are making an arrangement to establish a system that can help, that can work in this country,” Kwankwaso added.
