They Were Too Scared To Stand With Me – Senator Natasha Exposes Colleagues’ Cowardice
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, has revealed that fear of political persecution stopped many of her Senate colleagues from openly supporting her during her suspension.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking on Sunday in Okene at the inauguration of a new market in her constituency, the senator — who was recently reinstated after a controversial suspension — said several lawmakers privately expressed solidarity but avoided public backing due to political pressure.
“When a public official faces persecution, isolation becomes inevitable,” she said. “Even those who sympathize often fear showing support openly, afraid of being cast out or targeted. Many senators stood with me quietly — they called, they visited — but in public, they couldn’t display it. I hold no grudge against them.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan condemned her suspension as unlawful, saying it exposed the deep-rooted fear and intimidation that plague Nigeria’s political and institutional systems.
She added that the suspension disrupted several constituency projects, as contractors faced undue political interference and delays.
“The 2025 budget only took effect while I was still under the illegal suspension,” she explained. “Many contractors struggled to obtain their award letters because the projects were tied to Kogi Central. Politics made it extremely difficult to begin work.”
