They’re Making Noise, But Going Nowhere’ – Keyamo Hits Obi’s ADC Bloc

Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has acknowledged that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) is challenging the All Progressives Congress (APC) to stay alert, but expressed doubt about its chances in the 2027 elections.

Speaking during an appearance on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, Keyamo dismissed the possibility of former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, making significant electoral gains in the North, unlike President Bola Tinubu.

He argued that the APC already has deep-rooted political structures across Northern Nigeria—something the ADC lacks.

Keyamo also pointed out that the coalition’s rumored plan to pair Peter Obi with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar would fail to match APC’s stronghold of over eight million votes from the 2023 polls.

According to him, Obi’s 2023 success was driven by three unique demographic factors which would no longer apply if he plays second fiddle in 2027. He explained:

“They’re not making any real headway demographically.
I do like the pressure they’re putting on us—it will make us work harder—but the numbers don’t favor them.”

Keyamo elaborated that:

1. Religious Identity – Obi was the sole Christian among major candidates, rallying Christian voters.

2. Ethnic Sentiment – The South-East felt marginalized and supported Obi as their own.

3. Youthful Appeal – The youth, frustrated and eager for change, saw Obi as their champion.

“If Obi runs as Atiku’s deputy, these three pillars collapse,” Keyamo argued.
He concluded that Obi still lacks the reach and structure in the North where APC remains firmly rooted with its governors and political machinery.
