They’re My Heirs In Public Service!” – Wike Explains Why His Sons Accompany Him On FCT Duties
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has defended taking his sons along on official trips, insisting that no law in Nigeria prohibits him from doing so.....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Wike maintained that, as a public official, he reserves the right to travel with anyone of his choosing.
According to him, his sons — both master’s degree holders — accompany him for educational exposure and to gain firsthand insight into how government functions.
“What law says my sons shouldn’t travel? Let the FCT point out where they paid one naira,” he said. “Did they sign any official document? So what’s the problem? I can travel with anyone from the FCT or anywhere in Nigeria. I have that right.”
The minister clarified that his sons have no interest in politics, noting that they are pursuing independent careers.
He explained, “My first son is a lawyer, but he told me he doesn’t want to practise law — he wants to go into farming. I said fine. He’s already trained in Spain and Lisbon. My second son, who holds a master’s in Economics from King’s College, wants to venture into real estate.”
Wike expressed pride in his children’s discipline and sense of responsibility, saying they have brought him peace of mind.
“I’m happy to have children who give me comfort, not problems. Imagine if they were somewhere smoking or misbehaving — people would still criticise me. So why shouldn’t I travel with them? I won’t travel with my enemy’s children,” he quipped.
Wike’s comments come after backlash from Nigerians who criticised him for taking his sons to an official summit in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
