Governor Nwifuru also instructed the LG chairmen to clear all outstanding pensions by Monday, December 23. He issued this directive during the Elders and Widows’ Party organized by the state government at the Christian Ecumenical Centre in Abakaliki.
Expressing dissatisfaction with reports that council workers were owed salaries for October and November, the Governor called the situation unacceptable and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering governance based on the Charter of Needs Agenda.
“By 2 PM tomorrow (Monday, December 23), all local government staff should have received their salaries and pensions. If October and November salaries are not paid by then, the chairmen should step down,” he stated.
Governor Nwifuru emphasized his administration’s commitment to the social contract with the people and warned against any efforts to undermine his government’s work.
Additionally, as reported by The Nation, the Governor announced a welfare package for 5,000 elders and widows attending the event, which included ₦50,000, a 25kg bag of rice, and a wrapper for each beneficiary.
