Authorities have apprehended at least three individuals connected to the recent fatal assault on members of the 181 Amphibious Battalion of the Nigerian Army in Otuama, Delta State, where 16 officers and soldiers lost their lives.

As reported by Vanguard, the arrests were conducted in Port Harcourt, and the suspects are presently detained at the Army headquarters in Asaba, Delta State.

The incident, which has triggered widespread condemnation and demands for justice, elicited a strong reaction from Senator Godswill Akpabio, President of the Senate. In a resolute statement, he pledged that those accountable for the atrocious act against the military personnel would be subjected to the full extent of the law.

Concurrently, Delta State Governor, Sheriff Oborevwori, held discussions with President Bola Tinubu at Aso Rock, Abuja. Oborevwori assured the President that the state is actively managing the tensions arising from the attack and is committed to averting any further occurrences.

In light of these developments, the House of Representatives urged the Armed Forces of Nigeria to initiate a thorough investigation to unravel the series of events leading to the tragic incident.

It is worth noting that the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), in a statement on Monday, disclosed that the deceased army personnel included the Commanding Officer of the 181 Amphibious Battalion, two majors, one captain, and 12 other members of the battalion.
