Three Suspects Nabbed By Police In Bauchi For Alleged Kidnapping Plot
Three individuals have been apprehended by authorities in Bauchi State on charges of suspected criminal conspiracy, threat to life, criminal intimidation, and attempted kidnapping, as announced by SP Ahmed Wakil, the Command’s spokesperson, in a statement released on Sunday in Bauchi.
Wakil highlighted the Command’s ongoing efforts in combatting kidnapping and related crimes, which have led to notable successes.
The incident came to light when Yahaya Adamu, a resident of Badakoshi village in Bauchi LGA, lodged a complaint with the Anti-Kidnapping Unit (AKU) within the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department on March 7, 2024. Adamu reported that on March 4, at approximately 8:30 pm, he received a threatening call from an unidentified individual demanding the payment of N5 million. The caller, who claimed association with a criminal gang, threatened to either abduct Yahaya or his family members if the demanded sum was not provided.
Subsequently, the alleged kidnappers forwarded their account details to Adamu, utilizing a Point of Sale (POS) business account to facilitate the transaction. They further underscored their knowledge of Adamu’s assets and family members, listing them by name and intensifying their threats to coerce compliance.
Upon receiving this report, the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Auwal Musa, instructed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a discreet inquiry into the matter. Utilizing modern investigative techniques, the CID successfully tracked down and apprehended the suspects—Haro Adamu (35), Aliyu Saidu (40), and Musa Umaru (35)—hailing from Birnin Kudu town in Jigawa State.
The suspects were apprehended in Birnin Kudu town, Jigawa State, and Kaltunga, Plateau State, following a thorough investigation. During interrogation, the suspects purportedly confessed voluntarily to their involvement in the criminal activities.
