Timaya disclosed that he served as a backup singer for his colleague, Eedris Abdulkareem, for a duration of three years.
Despite their current lack of communication, Timaya emphasized that Abdulkareem would always hold the position of his boss.
Reflecting on his experience, Timaya credited the knowledge he acquired during his time with Abdulkareem for helping him promote his music in Lagos, even though he resided in Port Harcourt at the time.
He shared, “I spent three years as a backup singer for Eedris Abdulkareem. The lessons I garnered from that period prompted me to return to Port Harcourt. I realized that with the insights gained, promoting my music from Port Harcourt wouldn’t be as effective as doing so from Lagos, despite residing in Port Harcourt. The cost of living in Lagos was too high for me back then, even for promotional activities.”
Timaya emphasized the importance of relocating from one’s hometown after achieving success, citing his own move from Port Harcourt after attaining fame. He also highlighted his advice to fellow artist Burna Boy, encouraging him to leave Port Harcourt after achieving recognition.
While acknowledging Abdulkareem’s significant influence on his career, Timaya clarified that their current lack of communication does not imply any animosity between them.
