Tinubu Begins 2027 Re-Election Push As Wike, Adeleke, Soludo Declare Support
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council in Abuja, charging party leaders and members to mobilise support across their wards and deliver votes for his re-election bid in the 2027 general election.
According to Bush Radio Academy, Tinubu inaugurated the council on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at the State House Conference Centre, where he called for unity, discipline and commitment among party members as preparations for the election gather momentum.
The President urged members of the council to regard the upcoming election as an assignment that must be completed successfully, stressing that their efforts during the previous election would only be fully rewarded if they secured victory in 2027.
He challenged party leaders to work towards delivering their respective wards and ensuring substantial voter support for the APC.
Tinubu, however, acknowledged the need to balance political activities with governance, following advice from Imo State Governor and Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, Hope Uzodimma, who urged him to remain focused on the responsibilities of his office.
Uzodimma assured the President that APC governors and other party stakeholders would lead an issue-based campaign aimed at explaining the administration’s policies and programmes to Nigerians.
Responding, Tinubu said his administration would continue to address national challenges and engage citizens directly, even as the campaign council intensifies political mobilisation across the country.
He also highlighted the importance of attracting investors and meeting the country’s financial obligations, noting that economic development and opportunities for future generations remained priorities.
The President called on campaign council members to conduct their activities responsibly and engage voters constructively by explaining the policies and objectives of his administration under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Tinubu also commended Vice President Kashim Shettima for his speech and praised Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his deputy, Obafemi Hamzat, for their contributions to development projects in Lagos during his tenure as governor.
Earlier, Shettima praised Tinubu’s political courage and commitment to democratic participation. He recalled the President’s support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s presidential ambition in 2007, when Atiku contested under the platform of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria.
The Vice President also criticised Atiku over his comments about the presidency, insisting that the office of the President deserved respect regardless of political disagreements.
Shettima further criticised Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the National Democratic Movement, accusing him of using misleading statistics and making comparisons between Nigeria and other countries without sufficient context.
Meanwhile, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, described the inauguration as a demonstration of the party’s determination to consolidate its political position and pursue its vision for the country.
Yilwatda claimed that the support expressed by Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, Anambra State Governor Charles Soludo and Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Nyesom Wike for Tinubu’s re-election reflected confidence in the President’s policies and leadership.
He urged members of the campaign council to communicate the administration’s achievements clearly, acknowledge existing challenges and explain how government reforms could translate into improved living conditions for Nigerians.
The APC chairman also assured Tinubu that the party would mobilise voters from the ward level through local governments and states to secure victory in the 2027 election.
Uzodimma, who also serves as secretary of the campaign council, praised the President for implementing major economic reforms, including the removal of the petrol subsidy and changes to the foreign exchange system.
He argued that previous administrations had struggled to address the challenges associated with these policies, adding that Tinubu’s decision to implement the reforms demonstrated political courage despite the economic difficulties experienced by Nigerians.
The Imo governor also cited tax reforms and reported economic growth as indications that the country was moving in the right direction, while acknowledging that the measures had caused hardship for some citizens.
In their goodwill messages, Adeleke, Soludo and Wike expressed support for Tinubu’s second-term ambition. Adeleke entertained attendees with his trademark dance moves, drawing cheers from the audience.
Wike, a prominent figure in the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), praised Tinubu for confronting longstanding national challenges and urged governors to work towards delivering their states for the President in 2027.
Other political leaders, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas, Special Adviser to the President on Political Affairs Ibrahim Kabiru Masari and elder statesman Tanko Yakassai, also called on Nigerians to support Tinubu’s re-election bid.
The inauguration marks a major step in the APC’s preparations for the 2027 general election, with the party leadership pledging a nationwide mobilisation campaign focused on the administration’s policies, reforms and record in office.
