In Kano yesterday, Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, mother of Vice President Nana Kashim Shettima’s wife, was laid to rest at the Dandolo cemetery in accordance with Islamic rites. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former President Muhammadu Buhari, and other dignitaries extended their condolences to Vice President Kashim Shettima and his family.
Hajiya Maryam Abubakar, aged 69, passed away after a prolonged illness in Kano on Sunday evening. President Tinubu, through his spokesman Chief Ajuri Ngelale, expressed deep sorrow over her demise, highlighting her philanthropy and virtues.
Former President Muhammadu Buhari, in a statement by Mallam Garba Shehu, also mourned Hajiya Maryam’s passing, describing it as a profound loss. Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, currently in Pakistan for a UN retreat, expressed shock and described her death as a loss to the nation and particularly to Borno State.
In a separate event in Kano, APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje buried his mother-in-law, Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama, at the Tarauni cemetery. The burial was attended by Deputy Senate President Senator Barau Jibrin and Senator Abdurrahman Kawu Sumaila, among other political figures. Hajiya Asiya Muhammad Gauyama was remembered for her dedication to family, community, and faith.
