Tinubu Calls On Governors To Achieve Food Security Goals

President Bola Tinubu has authorized the immediate implementation of the National Construction and Household Support Programme aimed at bolstering agricultural productivity and providing economic relief across Nigeria. The initiative encompasses critical infrastructure projects like the Sokoto-Badagry Highway, which spans key states crucial to national food sustainability. Additionally, significant railway developments such as the Port Harcourt-Maiduguri and Ibadan-Abuja routes have received full counterpart financing approval.

Furthermore, the programme includes a one-time allocation of N10 billion to states and the Federal Capital Territory for bus and Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) vehicle procurement. It also outlines the provision of N50,000 uplift grants to 100,000 families per state for three months, alongside a N155 billion allocation for purchasing and distributing assorted food items nationwide.

During a National Economic Council meeting in Abuja, President Tinubu emphasized the urgency of enhancing food production and urged state governors to collaborate effectively in meeting citizens’ needs. He underscored the significance of the Sokoto-Badagry Highway in the agricultural landscape, stressing the importance of concerted efforts to achieve food security and economic growth.

Tinubu expressed readiness to support agricultural mechanization, provide high-quality seedlings, and deploy solar-powered irrigation systems to bolster farming capabilities across seasons. He urged timely execution of reforms and coordination among NEC members to ensure effective program delivery and desired outcomes for Nigerians.
