Tinubu Encouraged To Support Female Leadership In Economic Recovery, Ohanaeze Ndigbo Advocates....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶

Ohanaeze Ndigbo, a socio-cultural group representing the Igbo community, has called upon President Bola Tinubu to appoint women to spearhead the nation’s economic recovery efforts, as reported by Naija News. In a statement released on Friday, Ohanaeze proposed the appointment of a female Nigerian economist with international expertise to avert a potential economic catastrophe.

Okechukwu Isiguzoro, the factional secretary-general of Ohanaeze, highlighted the disproportionate impact of the current economic downturn on women. The statement emphasized the grim reality faced by Nigerian women, citing challenges such as limited access to healthcare facilities contributing to a rise in maternal mortality rates, inflation adversely affecting small and medium businesses run by market women, and widespread hunger making it difficult for mothers to provide for their children’s basic needs and education costs.

In urging President Tinubu to take decisive action, Ohanaeze Ndigbo expressed concern that the existing economic team is struggling to find effective solutions, and the entrenched damage requires more than their efforts alone. The statement argued that only a globally experienced Nigerian female economist could guide the country away from the brink of disaster and instill hope in the turbulent economic landscape.

Highlighting the disparity between Nigerian women and their counterparts in prosperous economies globally, Ohanaeze stressed the urgency of President Tinubu making tough decisions, including a potential overhaul of the economic team. The statement also emphasized that responsibility for Nigeria’s economic challenges extends beyond the federal level, with state governors sharing the burden. Ohanaeze called for immediate intervention at all governance levels to alleviate the ongoing suffering among women, children, and youth.
