Tinubu Praises Governors For Backing Groundbreaking Tax Reforms

In a statement issued on Thursday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu praised the governors for demonstrating bold leadership and fostering unity across regional, ethnic, and political lines to advance Nigeria’s development.

He highlighted the productive collaboration between the NGF and the Presidential Committee on Tax and Fiscal Policy as a shining example of cooperation between Federal and State governments. Tinubu also extended special recognition to NGF Chairman, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman AbdulRazaq, for successfully rallying his colleagues to support the transformative tax bills aimed at revitalizing the economy and enhancing the investment climate.

The President applauded the Progressive Governors Forum, the Northern Governors Forum, and other groups for their bipartisan efforts to resolve controversies surrounding the tax bills. He emphasized that the pro-poor Tax Reform Bills are designed to serve national interests, modernize outdated tax laws, boost Nigeria’s economic competitiveness, and attract local and foreign investments.

Tinubu noted that the discussions between the NGF and the Presidential Committee highlight the effectiveness of constructive dialogue in resolving differences. He described the governors as crucial partners in nation-building and reaffirmed his commitment to working with them to drive economic growth, unity, peace, and stability.

Encouraging other stakeholders to contribute their ideas to refine the bills, Tinubu urged the National Assembly to expedite the legislative process so the country can swiftly benefit from the reforms.
