Tinubu Reacts To Buhari’s Passing, Instructs VP To Travel To London For Repatriation

In an official statement issued by his media aide, Bayo Onanuga, Tinubu announced that Buhari passed away in London today at approximately 4:30 p.m. after battling a long-term illness.

President Tinubu has spoken with Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late President, and extended his heartfelt condolences,” the statement noted.

The President has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel to the United Kingdom to accompany Buhari’s remains back to Nigeria.

Muhammadu Buhari was twice elected as Nigeria’s President in 2015 and 2019 and had earlier led the country as a military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.

As a mark of national mourning, President Tinubu has ordered all flags to be flown at half-mast in honor of the departed statesman.
