Tinubu Remains Unchallenged – Gov Sani Reacts To David Mark’s Coalition Plan
Speaking during an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, Governor Sani reacted to the emergence of the National Opposition Coalition Group, led by former Senate President David Mark, saying it holds no weight against Tinubu’s leadership.
Sani emphasized that many members of the coalition lack the historical context and experience of Nigeria’s long fight for democracy and good governance.
“I can tell you today—and mark this day—Asiwaju faces no threat,” Sani said. “Where were these people when we were in the trenches fighting under Chief Gani Fawehinmi for justice, democracy, and the rule of law? We weren’t seeking power; we were demanding accountability and expansion of Nigeria’s political space.”
He recalled the resistance of pro-democracy activists, including himself, during the military-to-civilian transition under Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, especially their decision not to participate in early elections and their legal battles to expand political participation.
Sani concluded by urging Nigerians to judge current political actors by their past actions, saying: “Nigerians are wise. They’ll ask, ‘What did you do five or six years ago when you had power? Why are we still here if you could’ve made a change?’”
