The statement, titled “President Tinubu Sends Best Wishes to Team Nigeria at the 2024 Paris Olympics,” highlighted the president’s support for the 88 athletes representing Nigeria—comprising 63 women and 25 men—in 12 sports at the event.

The Paris Olympics, scheduled from July 26 to August 11, 2024, will feature 10,714 athletes from 205 countries. President Tinubu expressed confidence that Team Nigeria would have the unwavering support of over 200 million Nigerians, who will be fervently cheering and praying for their success.

He expressed anticipation for the Games’ opening on July 26 and looked forward to seeing Tobi Amusan, the world record holder in the 100-meter hurdles, and other talented Nigerian athletes compete with honor on the global stage.

In his message, Tinubu encouraged the athletes to demonstrate the resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and sportsmanship typical of Nigerians. He also urged the coaching staff and Nigerian spectators in Paris to represent the country with pride.

“The President urges the athletes to embody the resilience, courage, respect, self-control, and good sportsmanship that define Nigerians,” the statement read. “He also calls on the coaching crew, support staff, and spectators to remain worthy ambassadors of Nigeria.”
