Dangote Group Clarifies NNPCL’s $1 Billion Loan Claim

The Dangote Group has refuted claims by the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) that it provided a $1 billion crude-backed loan to aid Dangote Refinery.

Anthony Chiejina, the Group Chief Branding and Communications Officer, stated on Wednesday that the $1 billion was not a loan but part of a $2.76 billion investment by NNPCL to acquire a 20% stake in the refinery.

Chiejina explained that NNPCL’s failure to meet the agreed payment terms reduced its stake in the refinery to 7.24%.
