FG Spent ₦701 Million on Remi Tinubu’s Foreign Trips in Three Months — Report

A report revealed that the Federal Government spent approximately ₦701 million on foreign trips by First Lady Remi Tinubu over three months.

In 2023, the Federal Government allocated ₦1.5 billion for vehicle procurement for the Office of the First Lady, as outlined in a ₦2.1 trillion supplementary budget approved by the National Assembly.

According to a budget breakdown, ₦2.9 billion was earmarked for sport utility vehicles for the Presidential Villa, and an additional ₦2.9 billion was designated for replacing operational vehicles for the Presidency.

Former Senate Chief Whip Ali Ndume clarified that the ₦1.5 billion budgeted for vehicles was for the Presidency, not specifically for the First Lady’s office.

However, a report from Punch revealed that ₦700,707,532 was spent on the First Lady’s foreign trips to five countries, including two African nations, over three months. The report used GovSpend, a civic tech platform, to confirm this information. For instance, on November 17, 2023, ₦77,659,888 ($94,314) was released through the State House’s transit account for the First Lady’s trip to the United States.
