Igbu Job Terhemen, the Chairman of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Fiidi Council Ward in Makurdi Local Government Area of Benue State, has died following a reported attack by suspected assailants.

According to Bush Radio Academy, Terhemen was reportedly attacked at about 2:00am on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, and later found in an almost unconscious state near his residence around the NNPC depot along the Makurdi-Otukpo Road.

Reports attributed to a friend of the deceased said Terhemen had left his residence on Tuesday evening to watch a local football match in the Kanshio area of Makurdi but did not return home. His absence reportedly prompted people close to him to begin searching for him.

The friend, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said Terhemen was eventually discovered in a bush near his residence in an unconscious condition. He was reportedly unable to speak or communicate and died before he could receive medical attention.

The source further alleged that Terhemen had been tied with ropes and had a needle-like injury on his body, raising suspicion that he may have been injected with an unknown substance. It was also reported that his mobile phone was still with him when he was taken to the morgue, while the motive for the attack remained unclear.

The Benue State chapter of the NDC condemned the incident and called on security agencies to investigate the circumstances surrounding Terhemen’s death. State Chairman Ohini Ojegbe described the killing as a “broad-daylight evil” and urged authorities to identify and apprehend those responsible.

The party’s State Publicity Secretary, Agile Bem, described Terhemen as a committed and dedicated member whose contributions to the growth of the NDC would be greatly missed.

The NDC also expressed condolences to Terhemen’s family, the people of Fiidi Ward and members of the party, while praying for strength and comfort for those affected by the loss.

As of the time of the reports, the circumstances surrounding Terhemen’s death and the identities of those responsible had not been established by authorities. The Benue State Police Command was also reported to have said it had not yet received a formal report on the incident.
