The devastating incident occurred around 5:50 pm local time in Maungu, approximately 360 kilometers from Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, as the students were traveling to the coastal city of Mombasa for an academic excursion.

According to authorities, the collision unfolded when the university bus attempted to overtake a line of vehicles in challenging weather conditions, causing it to skid off the road. This sudden maneuver compelled the truck driver to swerve to avoid a direct collision, leading to the impact on the left side of the university bus.

Tragically, 10 individuals from Kenyatta University lost their lives at the scene, with another victim succumbing to injuries later in hospital.

Of the injured, 42 individuals are reported to be in critical condition, adding to the gravity of the situation.
