Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, aged 29, was killed in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, when armed robbers stormed her home in Katampe, Abuja.
The heartbreaking news was confirmed in a statement issued by the management of Arise News, signed by Hadiza Usman-Ajayi.
The statement read:
“TRAGIC LOSS: SOMTOCHUKWU CHRISTELLE MADUAGWU
December 26, 1995 – September 29, 2025
“With profound sorrow, the management and staff of ARISE News Channel announce the passing of our dear colleague, anchor, reporter, and producer, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu.
“Sommie, as she was fondly called, died in the early hours of Monday, September 29, 2025, during an armed robbery attack at her residence in Katampe, Abuja. The matter is currently under investigation by the Nigeria Police.
“At just 29, Sommie was more than a journalist; she was a lawyer, a dynamic professional, and a supportive friend whose presence enriched the newsroom and touched countless lives.
“We extend our deepest sympathies to her parents, siblings, extended family, friends, and loved ones during this time of immense grief.
“Her voice may now be silent, but her passion, dedication, and legacy will continue to live on in our hearts and in the history of ARISE News. We are devastated by this loss and urge the authorities to ensure a swift investigation, arrest, and prosecution of those responsible.”
