Social media users, who shared videos and images of the incident, reported that among the casualties, two were on-duty police officers in the area, while the remaining two were civilians.

In a separate incident on the same day, suspected robbers targeted Point of Sale (POS) operators in various parts of Owerri, seizing their cash and valuables.

A Facebook user, Presh Iheanacho, recounted the incident, stating, “Earlier today, around 9 am, some armed men in a Corolla vehicle attacked some POS shops and passersby just before Rapour Junction, dispossessing them of cash and valuables.”

Another resident, Ikechukwu Eze, revealed that POS operators were robbed at Amawire – Orji on the Owerri – Okigwe Road.

Iheanacho further shared that around 8 am on Monday, criminals targeted Christiana junction at Egbu Road, robbing POS operators. The wave of attacks raises concerns about the security situation in the region.
