The incident happened around 2 p.m. on Monday, November 4, 2024, less than a week after another building collapse occurred in the state.

Eyewitness Jonathan Obey reported that the building gave way while construction workers were on the second floor. Another worker narrowly avoided death but suffered severe injuries.

Obey attributed the collapse to the use of substandard materials, citing inadequate foundation and support structures. “When we arrived, we saw that low-quality materials had been used. Although the foundation was for a two-storey building, the rods and cement used were poor quality. The decking also lacked a central pillar and beams, which eventually led to the collapse,” Obey said.
