Tragedy Strikes Delta University As Lecturer Shot Dead By Unknown Gunmen

A professor at Delta State University, Abraka, Emeka Chukwuma, was reportedly killed by unidentified gunmen on Friday evening.

The 56-year-old academic had returned to his hometown, Umueji in Asaba, Delta State, for his regular weekend visit when he was tragically assassinated in his residence.

Reports indicate that killings and kidnappings have surged in Asaba, sparking concerns among residents who are urging security agencies to enhance efforts in protecting lives and property.

“Professor Emeka Chukwuma was murdered in Asaba on Friday night. He lectured at Delta State University, Abraka, and previously at the Anwai campus, which was converted into Dennis Osadebey University,” a source told The PUNCH.

“Prof. Chukwuma usually returned home every weekend. Unfortunately, he came back yesterday as usual, only to be assassinated at his home in the St. Bridges area of Umueji, Asaba. Right now, Asaba feels unsafe, and we’re deeply troubled by the growing insecurity,” the source added.

Confirming the incident, the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, stated that an investigation is underway to apprehend the perpetrators.

“The incident has been reported, and the police are actively investigating to uncover those responsible,” Edafe assured.
