Tragic Accident Claims Lives Of Two Young Miners In Cross River....KINDLY READ THE FULL STORY HERE▶
Two young individuals lost their lives due to a collapse in a deep mining well they were excavating in Obanliku Local Government Area of Cross River State.
The tragic event occurred on Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at Shikpeshe, along Buya Road. Unfortunately, the two youths were unable to escape and suffocated within the collapsed well, while three others sustained injuries and are currently undergoing medical treatment in a hospital.
According to local reports, the discovery of a rare mineral called Tourmaline in the area led to the involvement of illegal miners who enlisted the help of the community youths to exploit it.
The youths had been working on the well for approximately four months, reaching a depth of considerable but unverified danger.
In response to the incident, Governor Bassey Otu of Cross River State extended his condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
