Tragic Attack In Nasarawa Leaves Village Head, Two Policemen, And 11 Others Dead

Gunmen believed to be militants have carried out a deadly assault in Katakpa village, Toto Local Government Area of Nasarawa State. The victims of this tragic incident include the village head, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, two police officers, and 11 civilians.

The attack occurred at approximately 2 am on Monday, February 26, 2024, according to Ibrahim Shuaibu, a resident who witnessed the horrifying event. The assailants set several houses on fire, and as occupants attempted to escape, they were mercilessly shot.

Prior to the village assault, the gunmen targeted a police outpost in the community, claiming the lives of two policemen. Alhaji Abdullahi Aliyu Tashas, the Chairman of Toto LGA, confirmed the attack and the casualties.

While details about the civilian victims are still forthcoming, Alhaji Tashas mentioned being at a function with the Deputy Governor in Umaisha and was unable to provide further information.

This tragic incident follows a similar attack on Katakpa on January 1, 2024, where eight people lost their lives, and properties, including the village head’s palace, were set ablaze. Subsequently, three soldiers deployed to the community on January 8, 2024, along with two vigilantes, fell victim to an ambush.

Deputy Governor Dr. Emmanuel Agbadu Akabe visited the victims at the General Hospital Umaisha in the aftermath of the recent attack.

The situation in Nasarawa remains tense as security forces work to address the ongoing threats posed by these gunmen.
