Eyewitnesses reported that the driver of the Sienna bus lost control after falling asleep, colliding with a truck before veering off the road and crashing into a bush. This led to the fatalities among the passengers.

While no official statements have been released by the relevant authorities, eyewitness Ochiegbu told ABN TV that he witnessed the horrific scene while traveling from Umuahia and immediately alerted the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC). The footage broadcasted by ABN TV captured the distressing scene of sympathizers grieving and assisting with the evacuation of the victims.

As of this report, neither the FRSC nor the Abia State Police Command has provided confirmation or additional details about the accident.
