On a somber Friday in Amanwozuzu, located in the Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, tragedy struck as a family of eight met their untimely demise in a fatal auto accident while en route to their home for New Year celebrations. According to an eyewitness, the father, who was driving a Sienna vehicle with his wife and children, collided with a stationary truck loaded with rods. The impact of the collision resulted in the rods piercing the bodies of the victims, leading to the instantaneous loss of all eight lives. The eyewitness shared, “The rod pierced the bodies of the victims, and all of them died on the spot.”
In response to the tragic event, both law enforcement officers and local residents mobilized to access the vehicle and retrieve the lifeless bodies of the family members. Subsequently, the bodies were transported to a morgue by personnel from the Ikeduru Local Government Area Division of the police.
Lucky Ahiole, the Chief Superintendent of Police and Divisional Police Officer overseeing the Ikeduru LGA, provided additional details, stating that the stationary truck had been parked by the roadside when the driver of the Sienna vehicle collided with it. Reflecting on the severity of the incident, the DPO expressed, “It is terrible. Eight persons died, and we have taken them to a morgue. We had to break the Sienna vehicle to bring out the dead bodies. The rod pierced their eyes and bodies, and even the children died.” The community is left in mourning as they grapple with the profound loss of an entire family on the eve of a joyous occasion.
