An Air Force cadet, identified as Emmanuel Chidiebere Onyeomereneche, tragically lost his life in a swimming pool incident on Tuesday.

The unfortunate event occurred at Damgrete Hotel in Umuahia, the capital of Abia State. According to a source speaking to BUSHRADIOGIST anonymously, the cadet visited the facility for a swim, unaware that the pool was undergoing renovation at the time.

Details remain unclear regarding whether the victim was aware of the ongoing renovation before entering the pool. His body was later retrieved by Abia State Fire Service personnel and confirmed deceased at the Federal Medical Centre in Umuahia.

Witnesses noted that the cadet had come prepared for a swim, evidenced by his swimming trunks. He vanished from the pool area around 6:37 pm and was recovered nearly three hours later, at 9:58 pm. The challenging condition of the pool compounded the rescue efforts.

Reports indicate a lack of divers on-site to aid in the rescue operation until the arrival of the state fire service personnel. Lt. Innocent Omale, the Army Public Relations Officer of 14 Brigade, Ohafia, confirmed the incident.

According to Omale, Onyeomereneche had been socializing with friends before impulsively jumping into the pool. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the cadet’s untimely demise are ongoing.
