A tragic incident unfolded on Saturday at the bustling Arakale Market in Akure, Ondo State, where an unnamed soldier allegedly fatally stabbed a local trader following a heated disagreement. The altercation sparked uproar among the deceased trader’s colleagues, prompting a swift response from the Ondo State Police Command to restore calm.
According to Naija News, Funmilayo Odunlami, the State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident, revealing that the command had initiated collaborative efforts with the Nigerian Army to apprehend the perpetrator(s).
Reportedly, the soldier had purportedly rallied his fellow servicemen to demand a refund for unsatisfactory services rendered by the deceased trader, escalating tensions between them.
Eyewitnesses disclosed to Punch that the dispute escalated into a physical altercation, resulting in the tragic stabbing of the trader by one of the soldiers. This disturbing turn of events triggered a protest among fellow traders, who blockaded Arakale Road, disrupting vehicular movement until law enforcement intervened.
Efforts are underway to identify and bring the responsible party to justice, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for resolution.
